Israel Receives Bodies of Four Hostages from Hamas in Gaza
For the first time, Israel has recovered the bodies of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza as part of an ongoing ceasefire agreement.
Hamas claims the deceased include three members of the Bibas family—mother Shiri and her young children, Kfir and Ariel, who were nine months and four years old when abducted.
BBC correspondent Paul Adams describes a profound sense of grief across Israel following the news.
Hamas alleges that the Bibas family members were killed in an Israeli strike over a year ago but has provided no evidence. The BBC has not independently verified this claim, and Israel has stated it will await forensic testing before confirming their deaths.
The fourth body recovered is that of 84-year-old Oded Lifschitz, a veteran peace activist, according to Hamas.
