CAIRO, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Israeli airstrikes on Friday killed at least 25 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, medics reported, including at least eight people in an apartment within the Nuseirat refugee camp and 10 others, among them seven children, in the town of Jabalia.
Efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and the Islamist group Hamas have yet to yield results after more than a year of conflict.
Sources involved in the negotiations told Reuters on Thursday that while Qatar and Egypt have managed to resolve some disputes between the two sides, significant sticking points remain.
Israel launched its assault on Gaza following an attack on Israeli communities by Hamas-led fighters on October 7, 2023. The attack resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the abduction of over 250 hostages, according to Israeli figures. Israel reports that about 100 hostages are still being held, though the number of those alive remains uncertain.
Gazan authorities report that Israel's campaign has killed over 45,000 Palestinians and displaced the majority of the 2.3 million residents. Much of the coastal enclave has been left in ruins.
