Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City killed at least 45 people, hours after a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas, according to the Gaza Civil Defense.
The agency reported that at least 20 people died in a strike on a residential building near the coastal Sheikh Radwan neighborhood early Wednesday. Another 15 people were killed and up to 20 injured in a separate attack on a nearby residential block.
Video footage from the scene showed rescuers attempting to free victims trapped under rubble, with bodies visible. In another clip, injured children were seen being taken for treatment, and minors were seen receiving care on gurneys.
In the Al-Rimal neighborhood, the Civil Defense reported five deaths and 10 injuries after a home collapsed due to Israeli bombing. In the central Al-Daraj area, five more people were killed in a bombing of a residential block.
Dozens of casualties were transported to the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital complex in Gaza City. Its director, Dr. Fadel Naim, warned that the next 70 hours before the ceasefire takes effect would be “violent and painful” for the people of Gaza. "The attacks on Gaza have not stopped," he said.
“Despite the recent announcement of an agreement to end the war, the aggression continues,” Naim added. “Following the announcement, Israel carried out intense bombings on residential areas in Gaza City, seemingly in an attempt to cause as much harm as possible.”
